Rolex V. Tudor

2018 is the year for GMT remakes in Baselworld with Tudor coming out with the spectacular Tudor Black Bay GMT, with an old-school feel and “Pepsi” dial. This will make all the enthusiast excited. And Rolex coming out the with GMT-Master II, A beautiful redone design of the original GMT, this time with an Oyster steel jubilee. This seems like it’s going to be a showdown of the “Pepsi” bezels at this years Baselworld.

First off let’s dive in the Tudor release, this is a gorgeous watch, this sits in the Black Bay family and is the same 41mm size of the classic Black Bay divers we’ve been seeing come out from them. The “Pepsi” bezel is going to make a lot of enthusiasts happy, I personally love the look Tudor has been doing. It gives someone the ability to get that old school authentic tool diver that Rolex used to be. Coming out with the GMT and with the “Pepsi” bezel really blows away Rolex out of the water. With the Calibre MT5652 movement, and a price point of $3,900 with the steel bracelet you can’t beat the horology and price point.

While in the other “corner” we have the new Rolex GMT- Master II another remaster GMT to fit more of the vintage age. Having the same Cerachrome two-tone (red and blue) bi-directional bezel with 24-hour, night/day indications as well as the same black dial. But what throws this watch back into the vintage age is the jubilee bracelet, which we haven’t seen on a GMT since it’s early days. The bracelet is made of Oyster steel with an oysterlock clasp. But what really makes this watch “new” is the 3285 caliber with the new Chronology escapement that has been added to new Rolex movements, allowing for a 15% gain in efficiency. It also boasts 70 hours of power reserve (beating out the caliber 3186's 48 hours).
