Rolex is one of if not the most recognizable watch brands out there, but not many people know about their sister brand Tudor, who in my opinion is doing it better than Rolex currently. Tudor is what Rolex used to be, a straightforward, reliable tool watch brand at an affordable price.

With their new release of the Black Bay GMT Pepsi, Rolex has some catching up to do in terms of their pricing, look, and accessibility. While Rolex has just released their new Pepsi GMT, it doesn’t really compare to the Tudor. For example, the Tudor isn’t as delicate looking as the Rolex, the Tudor having an aluminum bezel certainly helps with that, giving it a much classier and cleaner look, especially for a tool watch.
Another reason for the Black Bay’s success so far is it’s overall nice vintage-inspired aesthetic, it definitely got a lot of its design elements from the old Rolex Pepsi GMT’s. Having this vintage look is heavily desired currently in the watch market, everyone is looking for a decent vintage watch, and having a brand new watch that looks vintage has its advantages over buying strictly vintage.
Lastly, the Tudor is simply a better value, now granted the Rolex has more heritage, pedigree, and desirability than the Tudor, the latter has an in-house movement, high-quality design, and a vintage look, along with three strap options being a bracelet, a nato, and a leather. All of this for less than half of the Rolex, and they will be easier to get your hands on then the Rolex. In my opinion, all of these facts should sway you to at least consider the Tudor over the Rolex.
