A Response to An Article

Ariel Adams in an Article Titles Top Five Ironies Of High-End Watches ( which I will Link Here ) Starts off the Article with the perfect line “I didn't become a high-end watch lover because I decided my wrist was a great place to show off my money”. A lot of non-watch people see a watch of high value and simple think of people with lots of money and a way to flaunt their expensive taste. Sadly to a watch enthusiast a Rolex is something much more then something the next celebrity puts on their wrist. Or in DJ Khaled's instance given to their 1 year old kid, It’s something much more than a monetary item.

A watch as Adams puts it is simply a tool, a tool to tell the time, and whatever other functions it can do. As the tool becomes more precise and better and more accurate the more expensive the tool can get. I would say Adams puts this in a crude sense, a luxury watch is not just a tool, its engineering feat and item that can be used as a tool in many different ways but that is one side of the complicated rubix cube that is a watch to a passionate watch collector. No one bought that GMT Pepsi Rolex to find out what time it is. It goes deeper, yes the tool is neat, is beautiful, and most of all useful. But as the engineering of the watch is one part, the craftsmanship is the second. The Specific metals and manufacturing techniques to make a case, the material they chose to use to make the hands the right way to handle certain tasks. And Of course the third is pure design, the color choice of the “pepsi” Gmt, the dial design and everything is in the perfect spot to make it useful and aesthetically pleasing as possible. “What I love about high-end watches is the superb level of quality and the tireless pursuit of perfection in each little detail” perfection is an impossible task, but something that watchmakers day in and day out shoot for. Everything is there for a reason, nothing is out of the place it shouldn't and it is running like a well oiled machine.

Holding a well manufactured Luxury watch is like holding the Mona Lisa and Formula One Car all at the same time. The simple beauty of it is breathtaking but the engineering feet can make your knees shake all the same. If you own a watch now and have never had the unique opportunity to own a Luxury piece or even hold one in your hands I recommend going out to your local boutique and comparing the two. The watch you wear on an everyday basis to the Luxury watch, a true watch enthusiast will know the beauty in every way watch but you won't be able to deny the difference.

I hope you enjoyed my short little response to this article, reading the beginning of this piece by Forbes got me thinking about the reason to buy a Luxury timepiece. And truth me told I could write about that for hours, and so could most watch enthusiasts but everyone finds something different.
