The Skx007 is an icon, a mark of style, and most times out of not, a mark of a fellow watch geek. I did something I haven’t done since I first got into watches, I wore a watch for a week. I put it back on the factory Seiko Jubilee it came with, slapped it on the wrist and went about the week. I love the 007 from the first day I got it, It was like wearing a mark on me that yelled watch geek. I thought wow, my first automatic… that swiping hand caught my eye as soon as it started to go. Now that wasn’t my first time holding a Seiko Skx series. Months before I had the privilege to buy a close friend and fellow watch nerd the Skx009, the brother if you will of the Skx007. Coming in a blue and red “Pepsi” style bezel, and dark blue face. While the 007 was a classic black and white color scheme.

Nothing has ever captivated me as much as this watch. At a humble $200 dollars, it wasn’t the price range, not that at the time $200 dollars didn’t hurt the wallet a little. It was the meaning behind it. To be able to have a matching watch with a close friend that we got to bound over. To finally grasp something that was talked about in such high standards, held so high, and loved so much. It was special to me, and I think it tugs a little at the heartstrings of every watch collector who owns one.
I love the Skx007, the sliding second's hand gracefully dancing across the face reminded me why I fell in love with mechanical watches, and why this one meant so much to me. The 4 O’clock screw down crown fit snugly between the crown guards shaped with the cases curves. The thickness and heaviness was a bit of a bother in the beginning but I slowly started to get used to it and appreciate the sturdiness and strength of the watch. This is a watch that when you pick up, you can tell it will take a serious beating. The smooth lines and transitions from brushed to finish will show apparent the more you wear it, and the details will take your breath away. The black face with the round crisp white indicators gives you the ability of a quick read. The unidirectional bezel takes a bit of strength to turn, but you feel the craftsmanship in it and I found myself turning it just to hear the bezel click. The beauty of the volume is fantastic, There is nothing like the classic Seiko lume.
The negatives, I have none. Sure the Bracelet for me could have been a bit better. Or maybe it’s a tad heavy and over-sized. But for $200, no flaw, no tiny quirk can beat the bang for the buck. If you think it’s over-sized at 42mm they have an answer with the Skx013 at 38mm! Need a different color grab the Skx009, you can’t, you won’t go wrong with picking any Skx up!
This week on the wrist with the Skx007 has been a great one, I fell in love with this watch all over again. It gave the nostalgia of why I fell for the sweeping hand, the bright white markers, that arrow hand, and the lollipop seconds hand. I challenge you to wear one watch for a week, fall back in love that watches and re-find the reason you bought it.
